Background knowledge in ontology matching: A survey

چکیده

Ontology matching is an integral part for establishing semantic interoperability. One of the main challenges within ontology operation heterogeneity, i.e. modeling differences between two ontologies that are to be integrated. The semantics most or schemas are, however, typically incomplete because they designed a certain context which not explicitly modeled. Therefore, external background knowledge plays major role in task (semi-) automated and schema matching. In this survey, we introduce reader general problem. We review sources as well approaches applied make use knowledge. Our survey covers all systems have been presented years 2004–2021 at well-known competition together with systematically selected publications research field. present classification system knowledge, concept linking strategies, exploitation approaches. provide extensive examples classify under resource/strategy matrix obtained by coalescing systems. Lastly, outline interesting yet underexplored directions applying process.

Background Knowledge in Ontology Matching

Ontology matching is a critical operation in many well-known metadata intensive applications, such as data integration and peer-to-peer information sharing. Typically, heterogeneity in these applications is reduced in two steps: (i) matching ontologies to determine correspondences and (ii) executing correspondences according to an application needs (e.g., data translation). In this position sta...

Discovering Missing Background Knowledge in Ontology Matching

Semantic matching determines the mappings between the nodes of two graphs (e.g., ontologies) by computing logical relations (e.g., subsumption) holding among the nodes that correspond semantically to each other. We present an approach to deal with the lack of background knowledge in matching tasks by using semantic matching iteratively. Unlike previous approaches, where the missing axioms are m...

Ontology matching using comprehensive ontology as background knowledge

We investigate the use of background knowledge ontology in ontology matching. We conducted experiments on matching two medical ontologies using third extensive one as background knowledge, and compare it to the direct match. Our results indicate that using background knowledge, in particular exploitation of its structure, has enormous benefit in the matching. The semantics of knowledge within t...

Exploiting the Structure of Background Knowledge Used in Ontology Matching

Using multiple ontologies as background knowledge in ontology matching

Using ontology as a background knowledge in ontology matching is being actively investigated. Recently the idea attracted attention because of the growing number of available ontologies, which in turn opens up new opportunities, and reduces the problem of finding candidate background knowledge. Particularly interesting is the approach of using multiple ontologies as background knowledge, which ...
